Send a deletion request by email
Email support@strove.africa with the subject line “Data Deletion Request”.
Include the following in your message:
- The full name and phone number (WhatsApp number) associated with your account.
- The email address linked to your account, if applicable.
- A brief description of what data you would like deleted (e.g. “all personal data”, “my buyer profile”, “my merchant account and associated data”).
Identity verification
To protect your data, we may ask you to verify your identity before processing the request. We will contact you at the email or WhatsApp number you provide. Verification is typically a simple confirmation step and does not require you to submit additional documents unless there is a reason to doubt the request.
Processing your request
Once verified, we will process your deletion request within 30 days, in line with our obligations under the Protection of Personal Information Act 4 of 2013 (POPIA). We will send you a confirmation when the deletion has been completed.
Please note that some data may be retained for the minimum period required by law (for example, transaction records for tax or FICA compliance purposes). Retained data is used solely for legal compliance and is not used for marketing or platform operations.
What gets deleted
Upon a verified deletion request, we will delete or de-identify:
- Your profile information (name, contact details, identity documents).
- Your booking and transaction history, subject to legal retention requirements.
- Any messages and media you sent through our WhatsApp service that are stored on our systems.
- Your account credentials and authentication data.
- Marketing preferences and opt-in records.
For merchant accounts, deletion will also cover your storefront content, uploaded images, service listings, and bank account details.
Meta platform — automatic data deletion callback
If you connected to Strove through a Facebook or Instagram login, Meta may also send an automated data-deletion request to our systems on your behalf when you remove the app from your Facebook account settings. This is processed automatically in the same way as a manual request. You can still use the email method above if you would like a confirmation.
To remove app permissions from Facebook: Facebook Settings → Security and Login → Apps and Websites → find “Strove Africa” → Remove.
